The Wildland Firefighter program at Fox Valley Technical College offers private landowners and businesses, NGO’s, agencies, and municipalities in Northeast and East Central Wisconsin a chance to not only complete much needed habitat work but also enhance each student’s educational experiences. You get a fully trained, instructor lead crew (to national standards), with all students trained up to and beyond FF2 in wildland. All students will have passed a pack test at the moderate level, most at arduous. FVTC provides the crew and all the equipment necessary to complete your prescribed fire project. This valuable live fire training helps solidify concepts learned in the classroom that they can carry with them into their careers.

Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Not a contractor)

Additional Information: The Partners Program provides financial assistance and technical assistance to non-state and non-federal landowners for management of their land for wildlife. We can help with fire break establishment, fuel reduction, invasive control, and with fire implementation. For us to assist with fire implementation, contractors must follow all federal standards for burn plans and qualifications. Landowners need to sign a ten year agreement with the Partners Program for financial assistance.

Additional Information: The Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program provides financial assistance for prescribed burning, burn plan development, and fire break installation in order to restore/manage habitats for declining wildlife species. NRCS reimburses the participant for practices completed. Reimbursements are either a flat rate payment or 75% of the actual cost not to exceed the allowed maximum. Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) participants may be required to burn their enrolled land for mid-contract management. $40/acre cost share is provided through the Farm Service Agency.
